Trichrome stain of undecalcified bone biopsy shows the
interconnected pattern of trabecular bone producing a lattice work
that allows for structural support and compressive strength. Trabeculae
are typically connected from cortex to cortex. Perforations of the
connecting trabeculae lead to loss of scaffolds available for formation
of new bone. Most of the bone appears normal in this field, but a
few small button shaped forms indicate focal bone loss. |
