Trichrome stain of section of undecalcified bone biopsy
emphasizes the differential color separation of unmineralized osteiod
(red) and mature, mineralized trabecular bone (blue). The adjacent
fatty marrow is seen in the lower half of the field, while a uniform
layer of bone forming cells (osteoblasts) cover the osteoid seam.
The osteoid layer is quite extensive and appear somewhat thickened,
indicating increased bone forming activity (hyperosteoidosis, possibly
a high turnover state). |
