WELCOME TO THE
FRIENDS OF DUKLA PASS
Dukla Pass is a connecting point on
the border between Poland and Slovakia, and not far from
the western border of Ukraine. People of common ethnic
origin live on both sides of the pass. It is an area where
Eastern
and Western Slavic cultures meet. Dukla Pass is also
the scene of one of the most gruelling military operations
on
the Eastern Front during World War II. This area is rich
in history and culture, but has technologically and economically
lagged behind Western nations. Local museums are often
in dilapidated condition, and all of them are in need of
financial
assistance.
We urge all interested parties to contribute
intellectually to these goals.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The goals of the FRIENDS OF DUKLA PASS are as follows:
-
To assist in the upgrading and maintenance
of museums of the region on both sides of the border;
-
To promote knowledge of the Dukla
Pass area through research and publication; and
-
To disseminate knowledge of the area's
cultural and historical resources in the United States
and throughout the world. World War II shall
enjoy prominent emphasis, particularly regarding the
Slovak National Uprising of autumn 1944.
